This is my (unskilled) attempt to craft a Thorin that is more in keeping with the book. There are a lot of things I like about movie Thorin, but at the risk of offending a lot of Richard Armitage fans out there, I'm goint to admit that there are also a number of issues I have with him. Mainly, I just think he's too young, his beard isn't long enough, and his face doesn't look "dwarfy" enough.
So here is my own version of Thorin. What do you think?
And yes, I stole Gloin's beard to lengthen Thorin's. Big deal.
I like it. Though it is a bit creepy after having seen the movie Thorin alot times....
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah . . . it definitely looks different. More like a dwarf, less like . . . well, Richard Armitage.
DeleteCan you do something about Azog..?
ReplyDeleteHaha . . . probably not. My skills don't extend quite that far.
DeleteI don't mind the age so much as how much of his character is changed. In the book he is far more pompous an a little goofy.
ReplyDeleteYou know, the more I've watched the movie this past year, the more I've come to agree with you. They've really change his character . . . tried to make him more noble and honorable. And they've almost completely changed his goals for getting to the Lonely Mountain. In the book, he mostly just wants his treasure back; in the movie, he's trying to regain his "home". I miss the book Thorin.
DeleteHe seems to get more like that in the second movie.
DeleteAgreed, and I'm looking forward to that. :)

ReplyDeleteNo. No. No. Just no.
ReplyDeleteI really liked that Jackson took a lot of artistic freedom with the dwarves. They have more individuality and personality and they look much more distinctive than what I imagine the book-dwarves tp look like. And about Thorin’s beard, I wouldn't have minded him with a longer beard, but I think a short one goes well with his character. I like to think he cut it off after Smaug came and has kept it short as a remainder of his failure (in his mind anyway) to protect his people, and his promise to win back their home, since he did have a longer beard in the scenes of Erebor before Smaug's destruction.
